iPhone 6S: Pros And Cons Of The Leaked Specs

The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus devices are expected to be announced on Wednesday, September 9th and the big question consumers are wondering is whether it has been worth waiting for. Some of the most important aspects of a smartphone is the size, processor speed, camera quality, storage capacity, battery life and price. Below is a breakdown of the pros and cons in regards to the iPhone 6S/ 6S Plus based on leaks provided by insider sources over the last few months.

What Are The Pros?

1.) Faster Processor And More Memory

The iPhone 6S/ 6S Plus will feature major speed improvements, according to 9to5Mac’s sources. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus has the A8 system-on-a-chip and its successors are expected to ship with the A9. The A9 reportedly has a Geekbench score that has a 19.3% increase for the single core processors and 68.6% increase for the multi-core processors compared to the A8.

It is believed that the A9 may have two 1.7GHz cores and two 1.2GHz cores to achieve a much higher speed. Based on these numbers, the A9 chip in the iPhone 6S / 6S Plus should have processing speeds that are comparable to 2009 iMacs, 2010 MacBook Pros and 2011 MacBook Airs. That is not bad considering that the A9 chip is powering a much smaller device.

According to a leaked Foxconn manufacturing schematic sent to AppleInsider, the iPhone 6S / 6S Plus is also expected to have 2GB of RAM. This means that the memory will be doubled in the iPhone 6S/ 6S Plus since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM.

2.) Higher Quality Cameras On The Front And Back

For the first time since the iPhone 4S, Apple will be upgrading the number of megapixels on the iPhone’s rear-facing camera. The rear-facing camera will be upgraded from 8-megapixels to 12 megapixels so it will be able to take much higher quality photos. The camera will also use utilize an advanced image signal processor that is part of the A9 system-on-a-chip, which will offer better autofocus and exposure controls.

The front-facing camera (known as the FaceTime camera) will have major improvements as well. The sensor will be upgraded so you will be able to take higher-quality selfies and video calls will be sharper. Front-flash support is also expected to be added. Code in iOS 9 suggests that Apple will be adding an LED flash to the iPhone 6S, but 9to5Mac’s sources said that it will light up a white screen after the shutter button for the front-facing camera is pushed. There are rumors that the front-facing camera will support 720p video recording and panoramic shots on the iPhone 6S / 6S Plus too.

In terms of video recording, the iPhone 6S / 6S Plus will support 4K video — which is a major upgrade from the 1080p video recording in the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus. The iPhone 6S / 6S Plus will be the first iPhones that will be able to record 4K video. It’s about time that Apple will be bringing 4K video recording to the iPhone because Samsung added that feature to its Galaxy S5 smartphones back in April 2014.
